Margaret Mendoza has been the guiding force behind the One Root Tea and Herbothecary store since its inception in 1994.
She has always been passionate about providing folks access to healthy, organic foods and produce as far back as 1976 where she helped form a food buying club in Payson, Arizona - joining in a health movement of buying clubs springing up across Arizona trucked in and provided by the Tucson Cooperative Warehouse with the ideal of "Food for People not for Profit" in mind. After moving to Prescott in 1981, Margaret began working at the SUPER CARROT on Montezuma, a health food store that included just about every healthful product from shampoo to groceries and an in-store cafe. Later, she organized yet another natural and organic local food buying club calling it MAGPIE for folks in the area in 1991. This evolved and Margaret opened the now iconic One Root Tea & Herbothecary on Gurley & North Summit.
Along with her daughter Becca, they have instituted not just a brick and mortar location that provides everything from local art, to locally produced food, herbs and chinese teas, but a community center that offers health education and just plain wonderful conversation.
